Once in a Lifetime Opportunities

Today I went for a tour of the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium with work. We manage the floor plans and since it was recently renovated, they arranged for us to see the results. It was really neat seeing the dressing rooms and backstage. They also took us up into the rafters where the lights are. Considering I am petrified of heights it was a real challenge for me. I could not look at my feet or I would have had a panic attack. Even though it was interesting to see, I don't think that I would ever do that again! As you might have guessed I did not take this photo as there was no time for pictures on the tour!

Last week I had a meeting at the Legislative Building. Legislative Assembly and Executive council are part of my portfolio so I was lucky enough to be invited. It took place in the "Oval Room" and it was very regal. I have never been in the Legislative Building so I was just amazed at the beautiful architecture. After the meeting was finished, the LEG parking coordinator took us for a tour through the Premiers office. It is huge and just like you would picture it. It was an awesome experience.

Kyoto

On Friday July 31 a few of us from work went to Kyoto, an authentic Japanese cuisine restaurant. This was some of the best Japanese food that I have ever tasted. The meal started off with a little bean sprout salad and soup which was nice and light. Then I had this bento box for the entre. It was soooo good! We got to sit in one of those rooms where you have to take off your shoes to eat. I really enjoyed the experience and it was nice to get away from work and just relax. I have been soo busy preparing to leave for Calgary and this is just what I needed.

Lee House Restaurant

On July 24, 2009 a couple of us from work went out for lunch to Lee House Restaurant. It is authentic Korean cuisine and the food is amazing. This soup was full of spicy goodness and in those little dishes was pickles that you eat with the rice. In the stone bowl was another rice dish that was sooooo good. I would definitely eat here again.

An Office All Wrapped Up

One of the girls at work got married and we had to find a creative way to welcome her back from her honeymoon. On July 23, 2009 we decorated her office and had a blast doing it. We wrapped everything including her chair, stapler and anything that is associated with work. We even wallpapered the walls with pictures from wedding books. We work very hard, but we don't forget to have a little fun every now and again!

DCB Picnic

My branch (Divisional Coordination Branch) had a picnic on Thursday June 25,2009 from 11:45- 1:30. They had a team building activity which was to build a bridge within certain rules and have a golf ball roll down it. The ball that rolled the greatest distance wins and our team came in second. We all had a great meal with wraps, sandwiches, salads and chips. It was alot of fun and sure helped the day go a little quicker.

OMG, I Didn't Just Do That.......

On Thursday May 7th my work had a "working session" at Gateway Bowling with pizza and pop. The Auto Tech guys joined us as well as my bosses boss. I spent alot of time telling everyone how bad I was at bowling so that noone would be shocked when they saw a 60 score. My manager Lynn decided who was going to be on what team and entered all of our names in the system. My team included myself, our team lead Sherry and our intern Trevor. The team next to me was my Manager, and 2 Auto Tech guys. So it came time to start bowling and I was really nervous because I really don't know these people all that well. My manager and I were the first to bowl so she asked me to bowl first. So I stood there and concentrated really hard and thought to myself, please don't make a fool of yourself. So I posed and then threw the ball..........the ball.....bounced off the center part and then into Lynns lane!! How embarrassing...I threw the ball into the wrong lane! I did let her throw one in my lane. I was sooo embarrassed, but it did give everyone a laugh and it broke the ice a little! Then I ended up looking like a liar because I got 4 strikes and 1 spare in that game. It was a really fun time and great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

I Love My Parking Pass

I was sooo exctied to get my parking pass. The free parking is about a 10 minute walk away and I hated it because of this weather. It took a little while for me to get it, but worth the wait. I now park about five stalls away from the front of the building. I was very thankful that I had it in the last few days!

Work

This is what I walk through every morning, lunch and evening. I could go up the other staircase and it is faster, but I choose not to. This is one side of the plant area and there is more to the left. There is water in that blue area that houses many very large koi fish. Some of them are named, but I have not gotten a clear answer as to what they are. A couple of them are as big as a small fish that you would catch in the lake and eat. I ALWAYS stop, look and appreciate the beauty. My manager says that in the spring and summer all of the flowers bloom and it is just an outstanding view. There are many exotic flowers like birds of paradise. I wish that I could just pull my computer up here and work!
